"Dreamers of Dreams"

Before

After

  • 718 State Ave.  Cincinnati, OH 45204 in Lower Price Hill
  • A project of the 2008 ArtWorks Fall After-School Program
  • In partnership with YWCA and the Lower Price Hill community
  • Mural dedicated May 2009

Painted on the Santa Maria Neighborhood Center in Lower Price Hill, "Dreamers of Dreams" depicts an image of many houses nestled into a hill, just as the neighborhood is.  Within each house is a close-up portrait of a different face to represent the diversity of the community.  The mural is painted in vibrant, bold colors intermixed with patterns inspired by Appalachian quilts and aprons that reflect the community’s Appalachian roots.

Atop the mural is a brightly colored sky to draw the viewer’s eye upward.  A bird sits perched upon a rooftop, holding a scroll that says:  “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams;” a quote important to the community because it says that their futures are in their own hands, and that they can influence and change Lower Price Hill.  Along the bottom of the mural are many hands stretching upward, striving for a better future while holding up their community and supporting their neighbors.
